Annual Accounts
Whether you're self-employed as a sole trader or within a partnership, or are the director of a limited company, you'll need to prepare annual accounts, both to monitor the performance of your business, and to enable the completion and submission to HM Revenue and Customs of tax returns. Your accounts may take the form of a simple statement of income and expenditure for a subcontractor operating within the construction industry, a profit and loss account and balance sheet for a more substantial business, or statutory accounts for a limited company.
I can prepare your accounts, and complete the related tax returns for all types of business entity, ensuring all available reliefs are claimed such that your tax liability is kept to a minimum. I'll also take the opportunity to offer advice as to ways in which you might be able to increase your profits and grow your business.
Bookkeeping and Management Accounts
Keeping books and records for your business can be a time consuming task. It can also be quite daunting for those not familiar with bookkeeping methods. As such, I can provide you with an efficient service, using a bookkeeping system appropriate to your circumstances, in order to allow you more time to focus on other areas of your business.
If required, I can produce regular management accounts in order to assist you in monitoring the ongoing performance of your business.
If you would rather perform the bookkeeping function yourself, I can advise you on a variety of systems, from hand-written books and records to computerised spreadsheets and fully integrated accounting software packages. I'll help you choose a system best suited to your needs and assist with implementation if required.
Payroll

- Provision of employee payslips,

- Preparation and submission of statutory forms,

I can also advise you in relation to your obligations under the Workplace Pensions Automatic Enrolment regulations, and assist you in the administration of your workplace pension scheme if required.
VAT
If your business has a turnover in excess of £82,000, you'll be required to register for VAT purposes, and complete regular VAT returns for submission to HM Revenue and Customs. This can be a difficult administrative process with many potential pitfalls for the unsuspecting business person. I can provide a service to suit you, including:
- Assistance with VAT registration,
- Ensuring your bookkeeping system will produce the information necessary to comply with VAT regulations,
- Advice in relation to the various VAT schemes which may be available to you,
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns, whether as part of an integrated bookkeeping service, or purely by extracting the relevant information from your own system.
Personal Tax
There are a variety of reasons which may require you to complete an annual personal tax return under the self-assessment regime. Perhaps you're self-employed, the director of a limited company, in receipt of rental income or have made capital gains.
I can prepare your personal tax return, advise on ways in which you may be able to reduce your tax liability, and provide a detailed breakdown of the payments you'll have to make and when they will become due.
Construction Industry Scheme
Contractors
If you're a contractor operating within the construction industry, I can assist you in meeting your obligations under HM Revenue and Customs' Construction Industry Scheme. Whether you're just looking for advice, or someone to fully administer your scheme, filing monthly returns and providing payment and deduction statements to your subcontractors, I'll be happy to help.
Subcontractors
On the other side of the coin, as a subcontractor you'll have to complete an annual tax return in order to determine your annual tax liability and claim a refund from HM Revenue and Customs for any excess amount of tax deducted by your contractors. I can help you with this, ensuring that maximum relief is obtained for all of your business expenses.
